Professional Certification

Professional Certification may be obtained through the Music Teachers National Association.

Music Teachers National Association

Professional Certification

“Your teacher is a Certified Teacher of Music at both the National level as well as the State level. This certification attests to the fact that your teacher has met all the national and State standards for proficiency in piano pedagogy, and performance and that your teacher is committed to professionalism, ethical conduct and personal renewal through continued education in music”.
(From a chapter teacher’s Studio Policies.)

WSMTA has a grant to reimburse $100 of the $200 MTNA Certification application for WSMTA teachers starting the process.  After completing their certification process successfully, Eastside MTA teachers may apply for a Woodcock Certification grant for $100, making the total monetary cost for Eastside teachers’ application $0.

About professional certification

You may already be all that is described in this statement. It is, however, a further service to your students and their families to know you are committed to a formal program that ensures you are recognized as such, and that such recognition comes from the national professional organization to which you belong.

One of the outstanding benefits of becoming an MTNA certified teacher of music (and a Washington State Certified Teacher of Music) is that you can, through successfully completing the process, assure your students and their parents that, as their family music teacher, you are committed to all that this statement says.

For more information on certification and the certification process visit: wsmta.org and mtna.org.

On these websites you will find practically all there is to know about certification including: application forms, the renewal process, performance competency requirements and example repertoire in twenty one areas of performance, sample exams, suggested material for exam preparation, and more. The Certification Corner in the Clarion consistently offers up to date information on certification.
