Eastside Music Teachers Association serves music teachers who live or work on the east side of Lake Washington. Our members include teachers from Bellevue, Kirkland, Issaquah, North Bend, Mercer Island, Bothell, Renton, and more!

Teacher Opportunities

Teacher programs of EMTA are served to improve the quality of teaching, research, and scholarship in music and facilitate the education of music teachers.

Monthly Programs/Workshops

Monthly programs are presented each month by knowledgeable speakers at the general meetings. Monthly programs will be held in person at Newport Covenant Church. Workshops are presented to provide teachers stimulation and an opportunity for continuing education.

Certification

Members are encouraged to work toward certification, a nationally recognized standard of accomplishment for private music teachers which is authorized by the State Board of Education to qualify teachers as professionals in their specialties.

Conferences

Members are invited to attend the District I & II Conference in October. The MTNA National Conference is held in March. The WSMTA Conference is held in June. Woodcock Conference Grants are available for Eastside MTA teachers attending these conferences.

Student Opportunities

Activities of EMTA are aimed at the promotion of the art of music and the advancement of musical knowledge by providing education opportunities, which further the appreciation of music throughout the community.

Scholarship Competition

The Scholarship Competition is held each year to provide an opportunity for top students to compete, receive written evaluation from top adjudicators, to be chosen as state recitalists, to encourage further music study with awards and scholarships.

Student Awards

The Eastside Chapter recognizes students whose compositions have placed in WSMTA & MTNA Composition Competitions. Teachers may nominate students from elementary through high school levels for the WSMTA award for accompanying. Awards are made at the discretion of the public music teacher.

Student Essay Contest

Students from 7th-12th grades are encouraged to enter this year’s essay event. 15 students will be able to present their essays at the general meetings. Our goal is to expand student’s listening skills while encouraging them to experience music from the heart.

WSMTA Music Artistry Program

The Music Artistry Program is held each year to encourage interest in music and to provide students a performance opportunity. Approved visiting artists provide evaluations of the work of both students and teachers.

Chapter Student Recitals

We are pleased to offer EMTA students the opportunity to perform within the chapter. EMTA provides students with an opportunity to perform with other students whose teachers participate in the chapter.  EMTA provides students with an opportunity to perform with other students whose teachers participate in the chapter.
